The Widnes Wild have added defenseman Joe Gilbert to their line up for the rest of the season. Hot prospect Joe comes to the Wild from Telford Under 18’s squad and will add extra depth to an already strong defensive core.
Although not familiar to Wild fans, Joe is however familiar to Widnes Wild Head Coach Scott Mckenzie who coached the youngster for both the Telford NIHL2 & U18’s teams last season. Coach Mckenzie explains his reasoning for bringing in Gilbert;
‘I’m excited to bring Joe to the Wild for the rest of the season. His first port of call will be with the Telford U18’s but when they don’t play, he will play for us. I coached Joe last year when I was in Telford so he should fit right in to our systems and definitely understands the way I want us to play. He is young but I like that, he will play good minutes and hopefully learn a lot within the next few months.’
‘Joe practiced with us last night and did not look out of place, he makes a good first pass and skates really well. I want him to be a bit more aggressive but we will work with him on that. All the paperwork has been completed thanks to great work from our management team behind the scenes so our Widnes Wild fans that travel on Saturday will be able to get their first glance of our new player in Bradford.’
Joe will be wearing the number 16 jersey for the rest of the season. His Home, Away & Cup jersey’s are available for ‘Own & Loan’. If you are interested in purchasing one of Joe’s jersey’s the please email; firstname.lastname@example.org.
With just nine days remaining in the transfer window, it will be an interesting week to see if the Wild can add any more players to their already strong roster.
